Cookie Policy

Last updated: 25 April 2026

The short version

  • This site uses a small number of cookies to understand how it is used.
  • Nothing is shared with advertisers.
  • You can accept, decline, or change your mind at any time using the button further down this page.

What cookies are

Cookies are tiny text files a site can store on your device so it recognises you on your next visit, or so a service can count visits across pages. They are a normal part of how the web works, and used well they are harmless.

What we use, and when

The first time you visit, you see a banner at the bottom of the page with two buttons: Accept and Decline. Your choice is remembered for 180 days.

If you decline (or ignore the banner)

No analytics or tracking cookies are set. The only storage used is a tiny record of your cookie choice itself, kept in your browser's localStorage so we do not ask again on every visit.

If you accept

We load Google Analytics 4 to understand which pages and episodes people read and listen to. That service sets the following cookies:

  • _ga - identifies a unique visitor. Expires after 2 years.
  • _ga_<container-id> - tracks the session. Expires after 2 years.

IP addresses are anonymised before Google processes them, and the data is not shared with advertisers.

Essential storage (always used)

  • swcookies.consent - a small record of your cookie choice. Set on your device by this site, not by a third party.

Third-party services

We embed audio from our podcast host, Captivate. When you hit play, Captivate may set its own cookies on your device. See their policy for the specifics.

Change your choice

Click the button below to re-open the cookie banner and choose again.

You can also clear cookies at any time through your browser settings. Each browser handles this slightly differently - search "clear cookies" with your browser name for instructions.
